Union Dues

Being a part of the union is a benefit to Members. Most unions have initiation fees and monthly union dues, which are used to support Members in a variety of ways.

The Cement Masons’ & Plasterers’ Union dues support Members in a variety of ways such as negotiations for Agreements, training and education, lobbying for legislation to protect and expand workers’ rights on the job, and providing representation on WorkSafe, EI and CPP, to name just a few things.

It is each member’s responsibility to ensure that they remain in good standing with the union and that their dues are up to date and paid on time.

The following information is provided to assist you in understanding the dues structure:

  • Monthly Dues – $5.00
  • Field Dues – 2% of gross wages
  • International Working Dues – 1% of total wage package

Note: Receipts are issued by the Local at the end of February for the previous year’s dues.

Benefits

The OPCMIA Local 919 Union offers all of its members a Health Benefits Plan to help cover the costs of medical expenses. The Plan is financed entirely through contributions from contracting employers under collective agreements negotiated by the Union.

You qualify for benefits once you are a member in good standing, have worked with us for three months, AND accumulated a total of 360 hours of work through remittances from your employer.

Questions regarding benefits and pension can be directed to our third-party administrator Bilsland Griffiths at 1-877-623-6368.

Miscellaneous

Give us a call! We will do our best to fit you with a suitable position within one of our signatory contractors. Call us directly at 604-585-9198

Attending union meetings is a great way to find out what is going on within the industry.  It is also very useful as a platform for members to discuss issues or problems they may be encountering on the job. Not only can this be informative for members, but it can also be a very helpful way for your reps to get information as well.

Some contractors require drug checks as a part of their health and safety requirements.

Contact your home local and ask to be transferred with the local you are trying to travel/transfer to.

Death assessments involve a small contribution from each of the members in the event that one of our members in good standing dies.  These funds are pooled together and given to the family of the deceased member to assist with funeral expenses.
